This vintage Sabre rod blank that was manufactured by The California Tackle Company in Carson, California in the 1980’s is by far one of the best quality fishing rod blanks ever made bar none. Leon Todd who was the Chief Engineer for The California Tackle Company and Sabre later left this company to start Calstar. Many of the experts in the fishing tackle industry say that Leon Todd took the same mandrels that he used at The California Tackle Company and Sabre to produce some of the famous Calstar blanks that are currently being produced today. Needless to say there is not a better fishing rod blank than Calstar in my opinion. I have personally fished with Calstar rods and I can honestly say there is no better quality fishing rod on the market. In other words these vintage Sabre rod blanks are Calstar rod blanks and they are one in the same the top experts say. The E655H blank is used for fishing medium heavy tackle with 40 to 60 pound test line. This rod can be used for trolling and for deep water bottom fishing. Also a great fishing rod for fishing medium and large size bait like sardines, mackerel and cabalitto and for throwing medium and large size lures like plastics, plugs and jigs. This rod will go great with a Penn Special Senator 114H 6/0 or a Penn Special Senator 113H 4/0 reel or any other reel that you prefer that uses 40 to 60 pound test line.
