APPLICATIONS:

This is a great reel for casting Anchovies and Sardines. It has the high speed 5 to 1 gear ratio that is terrific for fishing live bait. Fish 20 to 30 pound test line on this reel and mount it on a 6 1/2 to 8 foot rod that is rated for 15 to 40 pound or 20 to 50 pound. This is the cleanest “Blackie” I have ever seen before.

This Newell 229F fishing reel is in excellent used condition. Increasingly hard to find, this first generation “Blackie”, designed and built by West Coast fisherman Carl Newell, is considered to be very collectible by many. Try to find one and you’ll see why! It is complete and original with minimal wear, corrosion and/or paint loss.
