- Both have bakelite sideplates
- Ocean City 979 has double paddle handle with black knobs
- Ocean City 985 has counterbalanced handle with black torpedo knob
- Both have metal spools
- Ocean City 979 looks and works very good with smooth cranking, very good free spool and loud crisp clicker
- Ocean City 985 needs to be cleaned and serviced and does not work very good at all. The right sideplate has been repaired and the handle knob does not turn.
