The Orvis Battenkill 5/6 marked “Made in England” is one of the most reliable, workhorse trout reels ever produced. Manufactured during the highly regarded British era by British Fly Reels (BFR) in Falmouth, England (and occasionally Hardy Bros in earlier classic iterations), these reels are celebrated for their bombproof reliability and classic aesthetic. - Frame Diameter: 3 ⅛ inches (79 mm) with a standard arbor profile.
- Physical Weight: 4.7 ounces empty, providing an excellent counterbalance for vintage glass, bamboo, or early graphite rods.
- Line Capacity: Rated to comfortably hold a standard WF5F line + 50 yards of 20 lb dacron backing, or a WF6F line + 75 yards of backing.
- Retrieve Direction: Fully ambidextrous. It converts between Left-Hand Wind (LHW) and Right-Hand Wind (RHW) by flipping an internal triangular gear or pawl layout.
